Christian Americans are asked to pray for our nation, our states, our cities, and all the leaders that govern them. But that can seem like a lot to ask sometimes. Some people may find themselves forced to live somewhere that seems to them like being in exile. It may be due to economics, the job market, or family issues. In any case, they feel trapped, and may have little or no hope of ever being able to leave. The last thing they feel like doing is praying for their city and its leaders. But that’s just what God tells us to do…and for a very practical reason.
“Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the
Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”
Jeremiah 29:7 NIV
So I urge you to trust in God’s promise, and continue to pray for our nation, our states, our cities, and our leaders. Our country needs Him now just as much as it did in the beginning.
